From there, you can either choose to host a lobby or join an existing one. In Private Screenings, you are able to play with bots if you want do so, however if you want to play with others, feel free to join our Discord linked here.Everything is unlocked, so dive in and relive the adventures from The Beyond with any style or perks you enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions
It's a copy of Hellbent's backend which facilitates logins, player inventory and progression, holds custom lobby codes for players to coordinate matches, and maintains players in filled lobbies. It does not have any interactions with players once they are in a match (loaded in).
We started work and organized shortly after the sunset announcement in June, progress was slow for a while until we got some help with networking.
We are fans of the game and we were all saddened to learn that the game would be shutting down the servers. We are also fans of preserving software and games thus we combined our passions and got to work.
The game was coded originally to connect to the website vhsgame.comHellbent didn't renew this website name so the END Team bought it. And we're now running a custom-made server on that domain so the game keeps working.
By launching VHS (thus connecting to the Team's Private Server), no Data other than the Epic Games User ID (used for saving Loadouts and Styles), is shared with the Team.
Technically, yes. However, while having any Mods installed, playing online will not work due to security patches placed by Hellbent. We don't know when this will be solved but we are looking to make custom files/mods a possibility in the future. We do want to see what experimental balance changes would do for the current game if implemented.Although we are open to supporting mods, we are not looking to do any community content such as new cosmetics, monsters, teens, or game modes as it goes against the nature of the preservation and also could lead to ire from Hellbent if we start actively developing a game we have no IP rights for.
The only thing required is to have a Steam or Epic Games account with a copy of Video Horror Society.Unfortunately, If you never added Video Horror Society to your library before the game was delisted, there is no supported method to get access to the game. It's a shame, and we wish it was a different story.
No, it's a minimum build only with support for custom games. Progression, the Store, Matchmaking, and more do not work. However, you will receive all characters, and cosmetics when you launch for the first time and the game has enough functions that we feel it's "good enough".

At this time, we are not collecting donations nor will we accept any. However, you can be rest assured that if the situation changes we will update the community.

Frequently Asked Questions
None of us are lawyers, but cursory research from multiple contributers indicates that courts in the United States and Europe consider re-implementing existing APIs to not be a violation of copyright law, at least according to certain cases (e.g. Oracle v Google). We are not distributing any of Hellbent's intellectual property, nor do we intend to.In short: Probably, but we're not experts on the matter.
As of the release of this project, there are many former developers who are aware of this project, however as for the remaining few employees at Hellbent (there are about 4 to the best of our knowledge) it is unclear if they know about it as we have not had direct contact with them. It's likely they are aware of it by this point.
No, we are not supported by the developers. We are completely unaffiliated with the developers. If you recognize a developer, mod, or anyone formerly associated with the IP, treat them like a person and give them privacy.
Although our backend is unique, Hellbent staff do have influence over EOS (Epic Online Services) for the game (although they would have to contact Epic Games to proceed in taking it down), so they could at any time shut this down that way or through legal action or threat thereof. However, keeping EOS up costs Hellbent nothing, as it is a service provided through Epic Games so there is a likely possibility nothing will change. Best hope is we hear nothing from HB and the project can just continue how it is.
Hello! If you need to contact us, our Discord DMs are open and willing to talk through whatever you need to voice to us, be they positive or negative. To make it short, we are just a group of people who love this game and want it to remain accessible in a preserved state for current fans. If you have anything you would like to share with us, we would greatly appreciate an open dialog to discuss whatever.
